WATERTOWN, Wis. - Senior Jake Parnau
(Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale) broke a 1-1 tie in the 81st minute to
lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team to a 2-1
Northern Athletics Conference win over Maranatha Baptist Bible
College Saturday afternoon at Maranatha Field.
After a scoreless first half which saw Maranatha double-up
Wisconsin Lutheran in the shot column, 10-5, WLC scored halfway
through the second period for a 1-0 lead. Parnau took a free kick
in the 76th minute and Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran) flicked the ball to James Sather (Milwaukee, Wis./Nathan
Hale), who got past the keeper. Maranatha equalized one minute
later at 76:30, when Kevin Vigneault beat senior goalkeeper Chris
Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran).
At 80:46, Parnau scored the game-winning goal when he ripped a
bouncing ball past James Widner into the side netting to put the
Warriors in front, 2-1. WLC held on the final nine minutes to win
its second straight game.
Sather finished with a team-high four of the Warriors' 14 shots.
Lorig made seven saves for WLC in the net.
Vigneault total a game-high seven shots for Maranatha (4-2-1,
0-2-1 NAC), which finished with 21 for the game. Widner made five
saves in the loss for the Crusaders.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-8-1, 1-1 NAC) looks to continue its
winning ways Tuesday, September 28 when it battles Rockford College
in a 4 p.m. NAC match at Sam Greeley Field in Rockford, Ill.
