ROCKFORD, Ill. - Junior Brett Maxwell's
(Hobart, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) first-half goal in the 24th
minute proved to be all that Wisconsin Lutheran needed as it won
its third-straight game by defeating Rockford College 1-0 Tuesday
afternoon in a NAC contest at Sam Greeley Field.
Maxwell netted the game's only score unassisted at the 23:22
mark of the first period to lift Wisconsin Lutheran to an early
lead that it never relinquished. The Warriors held an 8-6 advantage
over the Regents in first-half shot attempts.
WLC, which edged Rockford 6-5 in second-half shots, held off the
hosts in the final frame en route to its third-straight victory.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) faced
11 shots and made one save in the second half to earn the shutout
in the net. Junior Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran) totaled a team-high four of WLC's 14 shots.
RC's (0-6-1, 0-3-1 NAC) Oscar Ortega attempted five of the
Regents' 11 shots, while Matt Zawadzki made eight saves at the
goalie spot.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-8-1, 2-1 NAC) seeks its fourth consecutive
victory Saturday afternoon when it hosts Marian University (4-5,
2-1 NAC) at 3:30 p.m. at Warrior Field. The NAC contest is part of
WLC's Pack The Park promotion.
