MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team was handed its first Northern Athletics
Conference loss of the season on Tuesday night, falling on the road
to North division foe Concordia University Wisconsin 66-60 at the
R. John Buuck Field House.
The Warriors found themselves down early, trailing by a
game-high eight points, 10-2, at the 12:40 mark of the first half.
WLC managed to tie the score at 22-22 with 4:41 left to play before
scoring the next four points to take its largest lead of the game.
CUW, however, scored the final four points of the half to even the
score at 26-26 apiece at halftime.
Despite the slow start, the Warriors out-shot and out-rebounded
the Falcons in the first half. WLC shot 40.7 percent and corralled
20 rebounds, while CUW fired on 35.3 percent of its shots and
finished with 18 boards.
Wisconsin Lutheran grabbed the lead out of the gates in the
second half and held a slim advantage until the 13:42 mark when the
Falcons went in front by one point. After the Warriors regained the
lead over a minute later, the two teams tied the score three times
before the hosts were able to hold onto the lead for the final
8:20.
The Warriors again out-shot the Falcons in the second half, 45.7
percent to 43.3 percent. However, CUW went 11-for-13 from the free
throw line, compared to just 0-for-3 by WLC. The Falcons also
out-rebounded the Warriors, 24-16. Sophomore Shavon Dillon
(Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) scored 11 of her team-high 19 points
in the half. Meanwhile, Concordia Wisconsin's Katie Luethe poured
in 14 of her game-high 20 points in the half as well.
Junior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
recorded her second straight double-double and her fifth of the
season with 13 points and a game-best 13 rebounds as only two
Warriors reached double figures on the night. WLC concluded the
game shooting 27-for-62 (43.5 percent).
Tiffany Hendrickson joined Luethe in double figures with 11
points for the Falcons (9-5, 8-2 NAC), who shot 39.1 percent
(25-for-64) for the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-2, 5-1 NAC) continues its busy three-game
week on Thursday when it hosts Maranatha Baptist Bible College
(4-6, 0-6 NAC) at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
