MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
Warriors men's basketball team fell to the hot-shooting Lakeland
College Muskies 90-77 in a Northern Athletics Conference game on
Thursday night at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors jumped out of the gates quickly when sophomore Tim
Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) sank a three-pointer for
a 5-0 lead. A layup by Demuth gave the Warriors their final lead of
the game, 9-7, at the 16:40 mark. WLC could not keep up with the
Muskies' hot-shooting offense. Lakeland shot 61.3 percent from the
field and 50 percent (7-for-14) from long range to take a 54-33
lead into halftime. Demuth and freshman Andy Thusius (Kenosha,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) paced the Warriors with nine points apiece
as WLC shot 43.3 percent in the first half.
Lakeland's shooting cooled off a little in the second half, but
despite a stronger second half from the Warriors, the deficit was
too large to overcome. WLC shot 55.6 percent in the second half and
went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. After Lakeland led by a game-high
32 points with 15:01 left, the Warriors managed to trim their
deficit down to just 12 points with under one minute remaining in
the game.
For the game, LC shot 53.7 percent and 45.8 percent (11-for-24)
from three-point range. The Warriors shot a season-best 49.1
percent from the field and were 33.3 percent (7-for-21) from beyond
the arc. The seventy-seven points scored by WLC was also a new
season high, but unfortunately the 90 points was the most that it
allowed so far this season.
Thusius led Wisconsin Lutheran by scoring a career-best 15
points off the bench and also contributed with a team-leading five
rebounds. Jeremy Murphy (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) scored 13 points
and Demuth finished with 12 points and four assists. The Warriors
scored 34 points off of the bench.
Justin Ward led four Muskies (9-7, 4-4 NAC) in double digits
with 17 points and seven rebounds. Tal Diekvoss and Jack Ridgeway
scored 17 and 15 points, respectfully. LC out-rebounded the
Warriors, 35-26.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-12, 2-5 NAC) remains home at the
Recreation Complex on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Dominican
University (6-10, 3-5 NAC) in a NAC North/South battle at 4:15
p.m.
