MILWAUKEE - Senior forward Erika Laete
(Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) recorded her sixth
double-double of the season to lead Wisconsin Lutheran to its 15th
win by defeating Alverno College 56-35 on Thursday night at the
Recreation Complex.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead, going on a 19-5 run to
begin the game. Throughout the remainder of the half, WLC kept the
lead in double digits, ending the half in front by 17 points,
30-13. Laete scored 14 of her game-high 23 points in the first
half. The Warriors also benefited by out-shooting the Inferno, 41
percent (14-for-34) to just 24 percent (5-for-21).
WLC continued to build upon its lead after halftime. Wisconsin
Lutheran pushed its margin up to as many as 22 points, 39-17, five
minutes into the second half. The Warriors held a lead of at least
12 points the rest of the half. WLC once again out-shot the
Inferno, 36 percent (9-for-25) compared to 30 percent
(8-for-27).
Laete had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds for the
Warriors. Sophomore Alyssa Allister (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) added 9 points and six rebounds for WLC, which narrowly
out-rebounded Alverno, 41-35. The Warriors also won the turnover
battle, committing 13 turnovers opposed to 17 for the Inferno.
Sophomore Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) led the
Warriors with six assists, while sophomore Krissy Day (West Allis,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and freshman Rachel Hoft (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) each added four.
Alicia Kontowski, who came off the bench, was the only player
from Alverno (8-10, 5-7 NAC) to reach double figures with 11
points. AC finished the game shooting 27.1 percent (13-for-48) from
the floor.
Wisconsin Lutheran (15-3, 10-2 NAC) travels to Aurora University
(5-13, 2-9 NAC) on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tilt with the
Spartans at Thornton Gymnasium.
