NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team claimed a share of the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference championship with a 9-0 sweep over Alverno College at the Princeton Club on Saturday. With the win, the Warriors have earned the top seed in the six-team conference tournament in the spring.

Junior Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished a perfect NAC regular season at #1 singles after she defeated Tricia Goska 6-0, 6-0.

The remainder of the Warriors singles players all won in straight sets over the Inferno (4-9, 4-6 NAC) starting with junior Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Rockton) at #2, 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was victorious at #3, 6-4, 6-0, while freshman Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) took her #4 singles match, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) won at #5, 6-2, 6-1 and senior Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) rounded out the singles sweep with 6-0, 6-1 win.

All three doubles teams used identical 8-1 scores to gain three more victories for the forest green and white and help push the Warriors to the 9-0 victory.

The doubles teams that were victorious for WLC were Strehlow and freshman Stephanie Gengler (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) at #1, Hendee and Lindsay Gauger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) at #2, and Pearson and Strangstalien at #3.

The Warriors (11-4, 10-1 NAC) finished their regular season tied with Edgewood and Concordia Wisconsin for the regular season championship. The team tournament, featuring the top six teams in the NAC standings, will be held in the spring.

Wisconsin Lutheran returns to action next weekend when it concludes the fall portion of its schedule at the NAC Individual Tournament in Madison, Wis. The tournament will take place next Saturday and Sunday, October 8-9, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
