MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team claimed its third straight Northern Athletics
Conference win Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 triumph over rival
Concordia University Wisconsin on Homecoming at the Recreation
Complex.
The Warriors won in four sets as they took the back-and-forth
opening set, 25-20. WLC then lost a hard-fought second set 30-28
before coming back to win the third set, 25-21. Wisconsin Lutheran
led the fourth set start to finish to defeat the Falcons 25-16 and
earn the victory.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led
the way for the Warriors with 19 kills. Johnson also had one solo
block and four block assists. Sophomore Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added a double-double with 12 kills, 11
digs and two service aces.
Sophomore Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and
freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) had 33 and 14
assists, respectively for WLC. Bukiewicz also added 13 digs.
Sophomore Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) led
the team with 16 digs and four service aces. Sophomore Kelli
Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also recorded seven
kills and three block assists for the Warriors.
As a team, the Warriors finished with a .192 hitting percentage
and a match-best .314 percentage in set four as they collected 15
kills.
CUW (2-16, 1-5 NAC), which was held to just a .071 hitting
percentage, was led by Amanda Wilke's 13 kills.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-9, 3-2 NAC) looks to extend its
conference winning streak on Tuesday when it travels to face Aurora
University (4-14, 1-2 NAC). Match time at Thornton Gymnasium is set
for 7 p.m.
