MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team fell to Benedictine University 2-0 in a Northern
Athletics Conference game Tuesday night at Warrior Field.
No scoring took place in the opening 37:46 until the Eagles'
(6-6-2, 3-2-2 NAC) Mostafa Abdelrahman beat Warriors keeper Kevin
Ulwelling (Libertyville, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) to put
Benedictine on top 1-0. Izzy Castro was credited with an assist on
the play.
Ulwelling stopped three shots in the opening half as WLC was
out-shot 10-6 in the first 45 minutes of play. Two of the Warriors'
shots were on the net as BU goalkeeper Orlando Esparza stopped both
shots he faced before halftime.
In the second half, Benedictine tacked on another score as Sam
Odele found the back of the net at the 70:24 mark off a pass from
Jesse Ortiz to give the Eagles a 2-0 margin.
Ulwelling made four more saves in the second half to finish with
seven on the night. Esparza stopped two more shots to give him a
total of four.
Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led the
forest green and white with three shots. WLC finished with 12 shots
for the match, with six coming in each half. The Eagles were led by
Ortiz and Abdelrahman, who each tallied five shots. BU recorded 18
shots in the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-8, 2-5 NAC) returns to action on Saturday
when it travels to Mequon, Wis., for a NAC game against rival
Concordia University Wisconsin (9-4-1, 5-0-1 NAC). Game time
between the Warriors and Falcons is set for 3:30 p.m. at Fitting
Field.
