RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College volleyball team won its eighth straight Northern Athletics
Conference match on Tuesday night by sweeping Concordia University
Chicago 3-0 at the Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Warriors, who improved to 18-10 overall and 8-2 in the NAC,
swept the Cougars in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and
25-14. After dropping its first two conference matches, WLC has now
rattled off eight straight league victories.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) paced
Wisconsin Lutheran with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added
eight kills and hit .538 for the match. Sophomore Mariah Bukiewicz
(Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) combined for 30 of the 32 WLC assists. The
Warriors hit .258 for the match, while Concordia Chicago hit just
.048.
Defensively, sophomore Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) collected a match-best 12 digs, while Kelli Johnson had
one solo block and three block assists.
Savanna Ashbaugh recorded 16 assists and Maryl Pinotti had 10
digs for the Cougars (10-14, 5-5 NAC), who did not have a player
reach double-digit kills on the night.
Wisconsin Lutheran closes out its regular season slate with
three home matches beginning on Friday against Maranatha Baptist
Bible College (16-5, 5-4 NAC). The match with the Crusaders will
begin at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
