MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team played to a 3-3 double overtime tie with the
Concordia University Chicago Cougars in a Northern Athletics
Conference game on Wednesday night at a rainy and blustery Warrior
Field.
Senior James Sather (Milwaukee, Wis./Nathan Hale) put the
Warriors in front 1-0 with 13:05 gone by in the opening half off an
assist from senior Nate Waggoner (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran).
The Cougars came back to tie the score at the 27:41 mark on a James
Clayton goal from Taylor Nehmer's corner kick. The score remained
1-1 through the end of the first period as CUC narrowly out-shot
WLC, 6-4.
The second half was scoreless for the first 18 minutes before
the Cougars' DeAndre McLaurin gave his team a 2-1 lead at 63:06 off
an assist from Chris Jahns. Waggoner knotted the score at 2-2 at
78:43 off assists from senior Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and freshman Jake Semmann (Grafton,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) before putting WLC in front at 86:14
on a pass from senior Derrick Bordeleau (Hobart, Wis./N.E.W.
Lutheran).
Concordia Chicago did not go away, however, as the visitors
netted the game's final tally just 1:42 later for the 3-3 tie. The
contest remained tied at 3-3 after a pair of 10-minute extra
frames.
Sather, Semmann and Waggoner finished with three shots each for
the Warriors, who totaled 14 shots for the game. Junior Tony Bink
(Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) made three saves in all 110
minutes in the net.
McLaurin recorded four of CUC's (3-12-1, 2-7-1 NAC) 14 shots for
the contest, while goalkeepers John Gehm and Jorge Guzman combined
for four saves.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-9-1, 2-6-1 NAC) resumes NAC play on
Saturday when it travels to Sheboygan, Wis., for a 12 p.m. match
with the Lakeland College Muskies (5-7-3, 3-4-2 NAC).
