MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team had its eight-match Northern Athletics Conference
winning streak snapped Friday night, falling to Maranatha Baptist
Bible College 3-1 at the Recreation Complex.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which lost for just the third time in its
last 18 matches, won the opening set over the Crusaders, 25-21.
Maranatha responded by winning the next two sets by identical
scores of 25-18. The back-and-forth fourth set also went the way of
the visitors by a closely-contested score of 31-29.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
collected 17 kills to lead the Warriors. Sophomore Erin Greenfield
(Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added a double-double with 10
kills and 15 digs. Sophomore Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak
Creek) also recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs,
while freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) chipped in
with 15 assists.
Defensively for WLC, sophomore Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was one of four players to reach
double-digit digs with 16. Senior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) contributed with 13 digs.
Following a .364 hitting performance in the opening set, the
Warriors struggled on the attack and finished the match hitting
.176. Meanwhile, Maranatha hit .252 for the match.
The Crusaders (16-5, 6-4 NAC) received 29 kills and 17 digs from
Torey DeLozier. Pam Borchardt tallied 21 assists and Hallie Nelson
recorded 21 digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (18-11, 8-3 NAC) hosts Beloit College (0-19)
in a non-conference match next Tuesday, before it closes out the
regular season Wednesday with a crucial NAC showdown against
Benedictine University (16-9, 9-1 NAC). Both matches begin at 7
p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
