MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team fell to the Benedictine University Eagles 3-1 in
its final regular season home match on Senior Night Wednesday at
the Recreation Complex. With the loss, the fourth-seeded Warriors
will host fifth-seeded Maranatha Baptist Bible College Tuesday in a
Northern Athletics Conference Tournament Quarterfinal match at the
Recreation Complex.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which fell to 19-12 overall and 8-4 in the
NAC, dropped by four-set match to the Eagles by scores of 25-19,
19-25, 25-21 and 25-23.
Sophomore Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was
the only Warrior to reach double-digit kills in the match with 10.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was
close behind with nine. As a team, WLC hit just .141 for the
match.
Freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and sophomore
Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) recorded 19 and 16
assists, respectively.
Defensively, three players reached double-digit dig totals led
by sophomore Kayla Ridgeman's (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran)
21. Senior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
contributed 14 digs and Baxter added 10 for a double-double. Rachel
Johnson added to her career-leading total in block assists with
four.
Molly Kovacich led three players from Benedictine (17-10, 10-2
NAC) who recorded double-digit kills with 14. Abby Sattler dished
out 46 assists and Kara Zuro tallied 28 digs. The Eagles hit .223
for the match.
Prior to the match, Wisconsin Lutheran honored its two seniors,
Rachel Johnson and Jenna Neuberger, who played in the final regular
season home match of their WLC careers.
The Warriors, who are the fourth seed in the upcoming eight-team
NAC Tournament, will host fifth-seeded Maranatha Baptist Bible
College (17-6, 7-5 NAC) Tuesday, November 1 in a 7 p.m.
quarterfinal match at the Recreation Complex. WLC will look to
avenge a 3-1 loss to the Crusaders from a week ago.
