MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team continued its impressive run through the Northern
Athletics Conference with a 3-0 win over Alverno College Saturday
at the Reiman Gymnasium in Milwaukee.
WLC has now won six straight matches in NAC play as it improved
to 6-2 in the league with the win.
The Warriors cruised to a 25-12 opening set victory over the
Inferno (3-20, 0-8 NAC) before narrowly escaping set two, 26-24.
The forest green and white then closed out the win with a 25-15
victory in set three.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led
the Warriors offensive attack with 16 kills, while senior teammate
Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 10 kills.
Johnson also finished with a team-high .385 hitting percentage.
Setting up the hitters were sophomore Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak
Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) as they finished with 19 and 15 assists,
respectively.
Defensively, the Warriors were led by sophomore Heather Tompkins
(Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), who totaled 10
digs in the win.
Wisconsin Lutheran finished with a .222 hitting percentage while
collecting 43 kills. The Warriors also totaled 11 aces, led by
three from sophomore Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran).
Morgan Stuckey led the Inferno with six kills and six digs,
while Reagan Owen recorded 10 digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-9, 6-2 NAC) returns to action Wednesday
when it travels to Rockford College for a showdown with the Regents
(6-8, 4-3 NAC). Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Seaver Center
in Rockford, Ill.
