MILWAUKEE - Freshman Katelyn Kuehl (Fond du
Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) scored a game-high 18 points to pace
three players in double figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team rolled to an 81-51 win over Alverno College
on Wednesday night at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to open the game and
never trailed the rest of the way. The Inferno came within one
point at 12-11, but WLC went on a 13-1 run soon after to lead by a
first-half high 23 points. Wisconsin Lutheran maintained its
largest lead of the half through the end of the first 20 minutes of
play as it went into intermission leading 45-22.
Kuehl scored 17 of her game-high 18 points in the opening half
as the Warriors shot 53.1 percent (17-for-32) from the floor.
Junior Krissy Day (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) netted 12
of her 15 points for the game in the first half as well. Alverno
was held to just 22.2 percent (4-for-18) shooting in the half. Both
clubs combined for 30 first-half turnovers, but the Warriors
out-scored the Inferno 22-4 in the points off turnovers
category.
Wisconsin Lutheran continued its hot shooting in the second half
as it shot an even more impressive 57.9 percent (11-for-19). WLC
scored the first nine points of the half and extended its lead to a
game-high 35 points on two different occasions.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was
the third Warrior to reach double figures with 10 points. Freshman
Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) grabbed a
game-best eight rebounds.
The Warriors concluded the contest shooting 54.9 percent
(28-for-51). WLC also out-rebounded the Inferno 37-23 and limited
the visitors to just 13 made field goals in the game. Anna Boteva
scored 11 points for Alverno (2-4, 0-2 NAC), while Kristen
Speerschneider added 10.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-1, 2-0 NAC) travels to St. Louis, Mo.
Friday for the McWilliams Classic hosted by Washington University.
The Warriors will play their first game of the classic against
Agnes Scott (2-3) at 2 p.m. Friday.
