MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team improved to a perfect 4-0 in the Northern
Athletics Conference after defeating Rockford 73-58 Saturday
afternoon at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors opened the game by scoring the first five points
and never relinquished their lead the rest of the way. The Regents
did tie the game twice in the opening 20 minutes before WLC slowly
begin to increase its lead. The Warriors led by double digits for
the final 7:22 of the first half, including a first-half high
19-point lead (42-23) as the final horn of the first half
sounded.
Freshman Katelyn Kuehl (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran)
led all scorers in the first half with 13 points. Sophomore Rachel
Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) added 10 points as both players
went 4-for-5 from the field in the opening half. Britney Curry had
eight points to pace Rockford in the period.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 47.1 percent (16-for-34) in the half,
while the Regents shot 32.3 percent (10-for-31). The forest green
and white committed just six first-half turnovers while forcing 14
Regents turnovers.
In the second half, the Warriors held a lead of least 20 points
for the majority of the way, including a game-high 25-point lead,
72-47, with 3:00 minutes left to play. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 44.1
percent (15-for-34) from the floor in the second half as it had 11
different players reach the scoring column. The Regents got within
their closest deficit of 15 points as the contest came to an
end.
Kuehl paced three Warriors in double figures with 17 points,
while Hoft and Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
finished with 10 each. Johnson also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds
for a double-double as WLC out-rebounded the visitors 41-38. The
Warriors finished the game shooting 45.6 percent (31-for-68) from
the floor, including a stellar 7-for-11 from three-point range. The
Warriors out-scored the Regents 35-5 in points off the bench.
Curry netted a game-high 23 points to go along with a team-high
11 rebounds for Rockford (3-5, 2-3 NAC), which shot 35.4 percent
(23-for-65) for the game. Nicole Olson added 18 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-2, 4-0 NAC) will have 17 days off before
returning next to the hardwood December 28 at NCAA Division II Lynn
University (3-3) in Boca Raton, Fla. That game is scheduled to
begin at 1 p.m.
