MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College
celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 62-47 victory
over the Edgewood College Eagles at the Recreation Complex to
remain a perfect 12-0 at home and reach 20 wins in a season for
just the third time in school history. With the win, the Warriors
also claimed the NAC North Division title, their third division
crown in as many seasons.
Edgewood grabbed an early lead, but Wisconsin Lutheran got on
the board at the 17:27 mark with a jumper from Rachel Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran). The Eagles and Warriors
exchanged baskets until the Warriors surged out to an 18-0 run to
take a 22-9 lead. A pair of three-pointers from Alyssa Allister
(Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Melissa Klemm (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) kept the Warriors in the lead going into the half,
28-20.
Eight Warriors reached the scoring column in the first half as
WLC shot 44.4 percent (12-for-27) from the field. Tough defense and
12 forced turnovers from the Warriors caused the Eagles to
accumulate a mere 29.6 percent (8-for-27) shooting from the field
in the half.
WLC continued to build on its lead early in the second half with
a jumper from Laete and a three-point basket by Shavon Dillon
(Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School). The Eagles narrowed the margin to
just five points, 35-30, at the 16:32 mark, but the Warriors held
them off and widened the gap to as many as 16 points, 60-44, with
less than 30 seconds to play.
The Warriors were paced by Johnson's 14 points. Dillon finished
with 10 points, while Laete, Krissy Day (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) and Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) netted
eight points each. Laete and Johnson led the Warriors' rebounding
attack, grabbing 11 and nine boards, respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran concluded the contest shooting 39.2 percent
(20-for-51). EC narrowly out-rebounded WLC, 43-40.
Two players for Edgewood (13-10, 11-6 NAC) reached double
figures in scoring. Brittany Bylsma led the way with 12 points and
Alison Tobin contributed with 10. Tobin also added 13 rebounds for
a double-double, seven of which were on the offensive glass.
Edgewood finished the game shooting 30 percent (18-for-60) from the
field.
Wisconsin Lutheran (20-3, 15-2 NAC) travels to Maranatha Bible
Baptist College (6-17, 1-16 NAC) next Thursday for its final game
of the regular season set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Watertown,
Wis.
