BELOIT, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team fell to the Beloit College Buccaneers 1-0
Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both teams at Strong
Complex Field.
The Warriors played an even first half with the Bucs after
sophomore goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made four
saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the contest scoreless at
halftime.
WLC fired five shots on the net in the opening half and were
out-shot 9-5 in the period.
Beloit scored the game's lone goal 67 minutes into action when
Jackson Wilkins scored off a pass from Anthony Racine to give the
Bucs a 1-0 advantage.
The Warriors were unable to answer and were stopped on all four
of their shot attempts in the second half. The Bucs outshot WLC for
the game, 17-9.
Stewart was solid in the net for the Warriors as he made eight
saves to keep WLC within striking distance throughout the entire
game.
Freshman Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
led the Warriors with three shot attempts, while senior Derrick
Bordeleau (Hobart, Wis./N.E.W. Lutheran) added two shots.
Ryan Munger recorded six shots to lead the Buccaneers (1-0)
offense and BJ Kiser made six saves on goal to collect the
shutout.
The Warriors (1-0) return to non-conference action Saturday
afternoon when they travel to Eureka College (Ill.) for a 3 p.m.
start at Traister Field.
