ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Thursday night at
the ACR Homes Volleyball Season Opener in St. Paul, Minn., by
scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
In its opening match, WLC fell to Bethel University by a score
of 3-1. The Warriors dropped the opening set 25-20, but rebounded
nicely with a 25-23 second set win. The final two games would go to
the Royals by scores of 25-18 and 25-20.
Senior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led
the Warriors in the opening match by tallying 15.5 points. She led
WLC with 11 kills and posted double-digit digs with 13.
Sophomore Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran)
also contributed with a team-high 17 digs. Sophomore Mariah
Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and freshman Beth Baxter
(Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished with 19 and 14 assists,
respectively.
In their second match of the night, the Warriors fell to the
Wis.-River Falls Falcons 3-0. WLC dropped the first set 25-10 and
dropped the final two closely contested sets by scores 25-23 and
25-23.
Neuberger and senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) led the team with eight points each, while Ridgeman again
led Wisconsin Lutheran in digs with 10.
Bukiewicz added 18 assists to give her 37 assists on day one of
the season-opening weekend.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2) will resume play at the ACR Homes
Volleyball Season Opener tomorrow. The Warriors will take on
Wis.-Oshkosh at 1 p.m., in their first match of the day, followed
by a matchup against host Northwestern (Minn.) at 3 p.m.
