RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team defeated Dominican University (6-3) and
Concordia University Chicago (9-0) Saturday to improve to 5-0 in
the Northern Athletics Conference. The Warriors are off to their
best conference start since 2004 when they were members of the
former Lake Michigan Conference.
In its first match of the day, Wisconsin Lutheran defeated
Dominican 6-3 at Euclid Park. The Warriors began the match by
winning all three doubles matches by scores of 8-1, 8-3 and 8-3,
respectively. Junior Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) teamed with freshman Stephanie Gengler
(Slinger, Wis./Slinger) to win at #1. The tandem of junior Kathryn
Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) and sophomore Lindsay Gauger
(Rockford, Mich./Rockford) won at #2, while at #3, sophomore Emily
Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and freshman
Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) were also
victorious.
The Warriors claimed three singles wins as Strehlow was a 6-0,
6-2 winner at #1. Pearson posted a 6-0, 6-0 straight set sweep at
#3, while Gengler was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at #4.
The Warriors then wrapped up their afternoon by blanking
Concordia Chicago 9-0 at CUC Courts. The same three doubles teams
that partnered earlier in the day also swept doubles action against
the Cougars by scores of 8-3, 8-4 and 8-0.
WLC also triumphed in each of its six singles matches as
Strehlow (6-1, 6-1), Pearson (7-5, 6-1), Hendee (6-0, 6-0),
Strangstalien (6-4, 6-1), Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) (6-0,
6-0) and Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran (6-1,
6-0) each were victorious for the forest green and white.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-3, 5-0 NAC) looks to maintain its perfect
NAC record Tuesday when it battles cross-town rival MSOE. The match
is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at McKinley Courts near Milwaukee's
lakefront.
