NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team split a pair of NAC matches Saturday by
defeating Rockford College 9-0 before suffering their first
conference loss, 6-3, to the Edgewood College Eagles at the
Princeton Club.
The Warriors began the day by defeating Rockford (0-7, 0-7 NAC)
in straight sets at #1 through #5 singles, while earning a victory
by default at #6 singles. Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah)
competed at #1 singles and triumphed over Jessica Segalla 6-0, 6-1,
while Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was a
perfect 6-0, 6-0 winner at #2 singles against RC's Tanja Valentic.
Following at #3 singles, Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) defeated
Carla Ramirez 6-1, 6-1. At #4 singles, Terri Glasel (Appleton,
Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Taylor
McLaughlin, while Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) took her #5 singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Melissa
Nunez.
In doubles action, the team of Hendee and Lindsay Gauger
(Rockford, Mich./Rockford) blanked Valentic and Segalla 8-0 at #1
doubles. At #2 doubles, Pearson and Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage
Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) defeated Ramirez and McLaughlin, 8-0. The
Warriors won their #3 doubles match by default.
WLC fell to defending NAC champion Edgewood College (6-2, 6-1
NAC), 6-3, in its second match of the day. Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales
Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) took the opening singles match
against Jessi Ditzler, 6-1, 6-1. Pearson later posted a 6-3, 6-1 #3
singles win over Taylor Storbakken. The Eagles picked up victories
in four of the six flights of singles competition.
WLC's #1 doubles tandem of Strehlow and Gengler improved to 10-1
on the year by defeating Ditzler and Shae Beckwith, 8-5. EC claimed
wins in the final two matches of doubles play, 8-6 and 8-3.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-4, 7-1 NAC) next travels to Marian
University (5-4, 4-4 NAC) in Fond du Lac, Wis., on Wednesday for a
4 p.m. NAC match against the Sabres.
