MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College scored with
10:26 left in the second half to send the host Eagles past
Wisconsin Lutheran College 2-1 on Wednesday night at Breese Stevens
Field.
Keimand Isaj scored the game-winner for the Eagles (3-3-2, 1-1
NAC) off assists from Jake Owen and Evan Conrad and the Warriors
could not answer in the final minutes propelling Edgewood to the
win.
The opening half of the game was a defensive battle as neither
team found the back of the net. Warriors goalkeeper Jon Stewart
(Waukesha, Wis./South) made three saves in the first 45 minutes to
keep the game scoreless.
Edgewood, which outshot WLC 19-6 for the contest, held an 11-3
edge on shots in the first half.
Owen then broke the scoreless tie 13:22 into the second half to
give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
The Warriors quickly responded, however, as freshman Mavric
Otterstatter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) netted his
first career collegiate goal to knot the score up at 1-1. Florin
Maduta (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) was credited with an assist on
the play.
Isaj then answered at the 79:44 mark with the game-winner. The
goal was scored off of a free kick after one of Wisconsin
Lutheran's 10 fouls, compared to 14 for the Eagles.
Stewart finished the night with four saves for Wisconsin
Lutheran, while Otterstatter led the offensive charge with four
shots.
Paul Domann recorded five shots for the Eagles and goalkeeper
Kyle Koenig allowed a goal without saving a shot.
The Warriors (3-4, 0-2 NAC) return to the pitch next Tuesday
when they travel to River Forest, Ill., for a matchup with
five-time defending NAC champion Dominican University. Game time at
West Campus Field is set for 4:30 p.m.
