FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team defeated Marian University Wednesday
afternoon, 8-1, at Buttermilk Creek Park. With the win, the
Warriors clinched a spot in the six-team NAC Team Tournament
scheduled for the spring season.
Wisconsin Lutheran won all six singles matches over the Sabres
(5-5, 4-5 NAC) with #1 singles player Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales
Corner, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) leading the way by defeating Ann
Goyke 6-0, 6-0. Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) won at #2
singles, 6-2, 7-5, while Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) was victorious at #3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
A pair of freshmen represented the Warriors at #4 and #5 singles
as Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and
Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) both tallied victories.
Strangstalien won 6-0, 6-4, while Krause defeated her opponent,
6-1, 6-2. Lindsay Gauger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) completed the
singles sweep for WLC with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #6.
Doubles play saw the forest green and white take two of three
matches, with the lone loss coming at #1. Hendee and Gauger downed
the #2 pair for Marian, 9-7, while Pearson and Strangstalien rolled
to an 8-1 win at #3 doubles.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-4, 8-1 NAC) will return to action Tuesday
when it faces conference-leading Concordia University Wisconsin
(9-0, 9-0 NAC) in Mequon, Wis. The match at North Shore Country
Club is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
