MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team notched its first Northern Athletics Conference
victory of the season Wednesday night by sweeping the Edgewood
College Eagles 3-0 at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors won the match in convincing fashion over the Eagles
by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-18. WLC never trailed through each
of the first two sets and pulled away midway through the third set
to hand the Eagles their first conference loss.
Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led
the Warriors with 10 kills and a .600 attack percentage. She also
added three solo blocks and three blocking assists. Sophomore Erin
Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was next in line
with six kills. Greenfield also collected 12 digs defensively. WLC
finished the match with a season-low seven attack errors and a .279
hitting percentage, its second-highest of the season.
Freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and sophomore
Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) were credited with
eight and seven assists, respectively. Sophomore Kayla Ridgeman
(Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) had a team-high 13 digs.
The Warriors held Edgewood to just a -.071 hitting percentage.
Jessica Martin had 10 kills and Lindsay Swansby added 17 assists to
lead the Eagles (8-7, 2-1 NAC). Defensively for EC, Sam Himmelspach
had a match-high 15 digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-8, 1-2 NAC) will next be in action
Saturday when it travels to the Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee
for the MSOE Invitational. The Warriors will face Finlandia (9
a.m.), Augustana (1 p.m.) and Lawrence (3 p.m.).
