MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team pushed its winning streak to five matches on
Saturday by defeating Finlandia University, Augustana College
(Ill.) and Lawrence University at the MSOE Invitational at the Kern
Center.
The Warriors opened play by easily defeating Finlandia (1-13) in
three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-3 and 25-20. Steph Cox (Sheboygan,
Wis./Lutheran) had six kills and Beth Baxter (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) dished out 14 assists to lead the forest green and
white. WLC recorded a season-best 13 service aces in the match.
Heather Tompkins (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
led the way with five of them.
In its second match of the invite, Wisconsin Lutheran went five
sets to knock off Augustana (7-8) 25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 22-25 and
15-11. Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each tallied a
team-high 13 kills. Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek)
collected 29 assists and Baxter added 17. Kayla Ridgeman
(Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was one of three players to
reach double-digit dig totals with a match-high 43. Both squads
recorded 13 total blocks in the match.
WLC wrapped up competition by defeating Lawrence (8-9) in four
sets 25-22, 14-25, 25-19 and 25-20. Three players accumulated
double-digit kill totals, led by Cox and Erin Greenfield
(Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) with 12 each. Greenfield also
added 12 digs for a double-double. Rachel Johnson also contributed
a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Bukiewicz and Baxter
were credited with 25 and 17 assists, respectively. Ridgeman paved
the way defensively with 18 digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-8, 1-2 NAC) begins a three-match week by
hosting Lakeland College (5-13, 1-1 NAC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at
the Recreation Complex.
