NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team claimed a pair of 8-1 victories
Saturday afternoon by defeating Northern Athletics Conference
opponents Benedictine University and Aurora University at the
Princeton Club.
The Warriors began the day by defeating Benedictine (0-1, 0-1
NAC) in straight sets at #1 through #5 singles. Junior Kaitlyn
Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) beat MaryClare
Loughery 6-2, 6-0 at #1, while Kathryn Hendee (Rockton,
Ill./Hononegah) downed Lina Savickas 6-1, 6-0 at #2. Emily Pearson
(Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) defeated Vivianna Iway
6-4, 6-3 at #3 and at No. 4 singles, Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage
Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) took the match 6-2, 6-0 over Ashley
Shall. Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) took the #5 singles match
6-1, 6-3 over Nicole Choinka.
In doubles play, the team of Strehlow and Stephanie Grengler
(Slinger, Wis./Slinger) overtook Loughery and Savickas 8-3 at #1.
At #2 doubles, Hendee and Lindsay Gauger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford)
defeated Shall and Choinka, 8-1, while at #3 doubles, Pearson and
Strangstalien also topped Iway and Shukla, 8-1.
In their second match of the afternoon, the Warriors defeated
Aurora (1-2, 0-2 NAC), 8-1. Hendee took the #1 singles match
against Maureen Wagner 6-1, 6-1. At #2, Pearson claimed a victory
over AU's Elizabeth Pfaff 6-1, 1-6, 10-8. Strangstalien overcame
Christy Savellano at #4, 6-3, 6-0, while Krause won at #5 singles
over Taylor LaVoy, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 6 singles, Terri Glasel
(Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) was victorious over Allison
Kilker, 7-6, 6-2.
WLC took all three doubles matches by the scores of 8-5, 8-4 and
8-4, respectively. The Warriors' top doubles tandem of Strehlow and
Gengler defeated Wagner and Pfaff. Gauger and Hendee teamed to top
Savellano and Jansen at #2, while at #3, Person and Strangstalien
defeated LaVoy and Kilker.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-2, 2-0 NAC) returns to the court Monday
with a pair of non-conference road matches. The Warriors will face
Mt. Mary College at 10 a.m., before traveling to Beloit College at
4 p.m.
