HOWARDS GROVE, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team improved to 3-0 in the Northern
Athletics Conference after sweeping Lakeland College 9-0 Wednesday
afternoon at Howards Grove High School.
Wisconsin Lutheran was victorious in all three doubles matches
by scores of 8-3, 8-2 and 8-0, respectively. Junior Kaitlyn
Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and freshman
Stephanie Gengler (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) defeated Nicole Shavlik
and April Schmitz at #1. Junior Kathryn Hendee (Rockton,
Ill./Hononegah) and sophomore Lindsay Gauger (Rockford,
Mich./Rockford) took down Jenna Oberthaler and Brittanay Jurek at
#2, 8-2. Sophomore Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) and freshman Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove,
Wis./Monona Grove) wrapped up doubles play at #3 by blanking
Catherine Campion and Lisa Franzen, 8-0.
The Warriors also took all singles flights, starting at #1 where
Strehlow shutout Shavlik, 6-0, 6-0. At #2, Hendee topped Schmitz,
6-2, 6-0. Pearson was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at #3 over Oberthaler.
Freshman Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) down Jurek 6-4, 6-4 at
#4. Junior Terri Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
knocked off Campion at #5, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Erin Mathiak (Slinger,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) concluded singles play with a 6-0,
6-0 shutout over Franzen.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-3, 3-0 NAC) remains on the road Saturday
for a NAC double-dual in River Forest, Ill. The Warriors face
Dominican University at 10 a.m., before finishing the day at
Concordia University Chicago at 2 p.m.
