Warriors split with Beloit and Carroll at MSOE Quad

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches against Midwest Conference opponents Wednesday night at the MSOE Quad at the Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee.

The Warriors won their opening match over Beloit College (0-5) in straight sets. WLC won the opening set 25-21, before taking the final two games by identical 25-15 scores.

Senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the Warriors in their opening match with 14 kills and had an impressive .600 hitting percentage. Fellow senior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 12 kills for the forest green and white.

Neuberger and sophomore Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) each recorded 13 digs for Wisconsin Lutheran in the win. Sophomore Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and freshman Beth Baxter (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) played key roles as setters as they both finished with double-digit assists with 22 and 13, respectively.

For the match, the Warriors had an impressive .371 attack percentage, including a .545 percentage in the last set.

Following the victory over the Buccaneers, Wisconsin Lutheran fell to Carroll University in a closely-contested, five-set match, 3-2.

The Warriors took the opening set 25-22 from the Pioneers. After a 25-18 defeat in set two, WLC responded with a 25-21 set three victory. The final two games went to Carroll by scores of 25-21 and 15-11.

Junior Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) led Wisconsin Lutheran in the second match, recording a team-high 15 kills and a .385 attack percentage. Rachel Johnson again posted double-digit kills with 12.

The Warriors played solid defense against the Pioneers (2-5) as three players finished with double-digit digs. Neuberger had 19 digs, Ridgeman tallied 17 and Bukiewicz finished with 16, while also dishing out a team-high 31 assists. Baxter also added 14 assists for WLC in its second match of the evening.

Wisconsin Lutheran (2-4) next hosts Marian University for its home and Northern Athletics Conference opener on Tuesday, September 13 at the Recreation Complex. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
