MILWAUKEE - Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) scored a game-high 22 points and Shavon
Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) added 21 off the bench to lead
the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to a 70-60
win over Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday night at the Recreation
Complex.
The majority of the first half featured a closely contested
contest as there were seven ties and three lead changes. Trailing
17-14 with 9:53 left in the first half, Wisconsin Lutheran went on
a 21-4 run to take a commanding 35-21 lead into halftime. Dillon
netted 13 first-half points as the Warriors out-scored the Falcons
11-3 in points off turnovers and 12-2 in points in the paint.
WLC shot 44.1 percent (15-for-34) from the floor in the first
half, while CUW shot 27.6 percent (8-for-29). No player in the
Falcons lineup had more than five points in the opening 20
minutes.
Wisconsin Lutheran scored the first three points of the second
half to take its largest lead of the game of 17 points just 1:50
into play. The Warriors maintained their double-digit lead until
just under 10 minutes to play when the Falcons began to climb
closer. An 8-0 CUW run closed the Warriors' lead to just four
points, 49-45, with 8:52 left in the game. The Falcons would get no
closer however as WLC led by double-digits for the final 3:41 of
the game.
Dillon and Johnson combined to shoot 16-for-30 from the floor
and Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) was the third
Warrior to tally double figures with 10 points. Johnson also
grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as WLC won the battle on the
glass, 41-36. WLC was narrowly out-shot by CUW, 40.4 percent
(23-for-57) to 40.3 percent (25-for-62).
Brittany Zietlow scored 15 points to pace four players in
double-figure scoring for the Falcons (8-6, 8-2 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-3, 6-0 NAC) resumes its three-game week
Thursday when it travels to Watertown, Wis. to face Maranatha (6-4,
