MILWAUKEE - Senior forward Rachel Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) became the 14th player in
program history to score 1,000 career points as the Wisconsin
Lutheran College women's basketball team defeated Aurora 83-41 on
Winterfest Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors jumped on top of the Spartans early as they built a
10-2 lead at the 14:18 mark. With 6:30 left in the first half, WLC
had a lead of 21 points at 25-4. The lead grew to as much as 30
twice before the half to came an end as the Warriors were in front
42-15 at intermission.
Johnson recorded her sixth double-double of the season in the
opening half with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while teammate Shavon
Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) added 10 points. As a team,
the Warriors were 16-for-38 (42.1 percent) from the floor. The
Spartans shot just 20 percent (6-for-30) in the half. WLC held a
19-2 advantage in points off turnovers in the period.
Aurora came no closer than 29 points in the second half as the
Warriors coasted comfortably to their 10th straight win. Johnson
reached the 1,000-point milestone at the 17:27 mark of the second
half. She came into the game needing 15 to reach the mark.
Wisconsin Lutheran led by a game-high 42 points at 83-41 as the
final buzzer sounded. The Warriors shot 41.0 percent (16-for-39) in
the half, while the Spartans were held to just 21.4 percent
(6-for-28) shooting.
Johnson paced all players with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Dillon
totaled 12 points and 13 other players found the scoring column in
the win for WLC. The Warriors finished with 63 rebounds, 27 on the
offensive glass which led to 20 second-chance points. The hosts
doubled-up the Spartans on the glass as they grabbed 33 rebounds.
WLC also became the first team to clinch a spot in the NAC
Tournament with the win.
Tommeka Jackson scored 10 points for the Spartans (2-17, 1-11
NAC). Megan Kohrt grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (16-3, 13-0 NAC) returns to action on
Wednesday when it hosts Lakeland (12-6, 7-5 NAC) in a 7 p.m.
tip-off at the Recreation Complex. Fans unable to attend the game
