LISLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team won its third straight game Wednesday by blanking
Benedictine 1-0 in a Northern Athletics Conference game at the
Lisle-BenU Sports Complex.
The Warriors and Eagles played through a scoreless opening 45
minutes after BenU narrowly out-shot WLC 6-5 in the half. Four of
the Warriors' five shots were on goal in the period.
Wisconsin Lutheran controlled much of the second half as it
out-shot the Eagles 8-4. The contest remained scoreless until just
under 10 minutes left in regulation when freshman Austin Drake
(East Troy, Wis./East Troy) scored unassisted on a strike from 30
yards out. The score stood for the final 10 minutes as WLC won its
third straight game.
For the game, WLC out-shot BenU 13-10 as Drake led all players
with five shots. Freshman Reed Luengen (Slinger, Wis./Slinger)
recorded four shots. Junior goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha,
Wis./South) had to make just one save to earn his ninth win and
seventh shutout in net this season.
Alberto Mendez led the Eagles (2-11-0, 2-5-0 NAC) with four
shots and Zorohn Reed stopped four shots in goal for the hosts.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-6-0, 4-3-0 NAC) will play its first home
game since September 26 when it hosts NAC rival Concordia Wisconsin
(8-6-0, 6-1-0 NAC) Saturday at Warrior Field. The Faculty/Staff
Appreciation Day game between the Warriors and Falcons is scheduled
for 3:30 p.m.
