RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's soccer team concluded its five-game conference road
swing with a 3-1 win over Concordia Chicago Tuesday afternoon at
Concordia Stadium.
It didn't take long for the Warriors to strike first in the
opening half as freshman Teffie Joyce (Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) notched his third goal of the season just 1:26 into the
game. Freshman Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) recorded
his team-leading ninth assist of the season on the scoring
play.
Both teams played pretty evenly the rest of the half with WLC
out-shooting CUC, 6-4. The second-minute score stood as WLC went
into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Five different players accounted for
the Warriors' six first-half shots. Goalkeeper Jon Stewart
(Waukesha, Wis./South) had to make just one save, while his
counterpart, Jorge Guzman, also made one stop.
The second half score remained 1-0 in favor of the Warriors for
the next 30-plus minutes until they added to their lead. Following
a missed penalty kick from Mavric Otterstatter (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Winnebago Lutheran), he rebounded the save at the 75:50 mark
for his second netter of the season. Less than 20 seconds later at
76:06, Sophomore Brad Mallmann (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) rebounded
a mishandled ball from the keeper following a shot on goal from
freshman Nate Wasser (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) for the
3-0 cushion.
The Cougars reached the scoring column at the 80:27 mark on
Michael Amezcua's second score of the season.
WLC edged CUC in total shots for the game, 14-13. Five players
recorded two shots each to lead the Warriors balanced offensive
charge. Stewart made five saves for the game, while Guzman finished
with four. Alex Lopez finished with a team-best three shots for the
Cougars (2-12-2, 2-6-2 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-6-0, 5-3-0 NAC) finally returns home to
