AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team dropped its final game of the 2012 regular season
3-1 to the Aurora Spartans Wednesday afternoon at Vago Field.
WLC and AU played through a scoreless opening 45 minutes of
action despite the hosts holding an 11-3 advantage in shots. Junior
goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made two first-half
saves to keep the contest scoreless.
The Spartans continued their attack in the second half and
struck twice within the first 16 minutes of the period. Jon
Rosenbaum (55:36) and Anthony Parra (60:30) each netted scores for
AU. Sophomore Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
put the Warriors on the scoreboard at the 76:22 mark to trim the
deficit to one goal. It was Semmann's team-leading 10th goal of the
season.
With just over a minute left in regulation, AU added an
insurance score from Colby Newquist to bring the final tally to
3-1.
The Warriors recorded six shots in the second half to finish
with nine for the game. Stewart stopped five shots in the final
frame and ended the match with seven saves. Isaac Kolterjahn
(Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Sturgeon Bay) totaled a team-best three shots
for WLC.
Parra posted five of Aurora's 21 shots, while Ethan Cashen made
one save to earn the win in net for the Spartans (12-5-1, 8-2-1
NAC).
Sixth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran (11-8-0, 6-5-0 NAC) opens
Northern Athletics Conference Tournament play Sunday when it
travels to face third-seeded Concordia Wisconsin (10-7-1, 8-2-1
NAC) in a first round matchup. The Falcons narrowly defeated the
Warriors 1-0 in their only meeting of the season October 22. Game
time at Fitting Field in Mequon, Wis., is set for 1:30 p.m.
