MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team moved its record back to .500 on the season with a
3-0 sweep over Alverno Saturday at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors dominated the opening set as they cruised to a
25-12 victory before having little trouble in set two, winning
25-16. The closest set came in the finale when WLC edged out a
25-22 win to secure the sweep.
WLC opened the match by finishing with an impressive .349 attack
percentage in the opening set, racking up 13 kills on just 29 total
attacks. For the match, Wisconsin Lutheran had a .232 attack
percentage compared to .136 for the Inferno.
Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) paced
Wisconsin Lutheran with 12 kills and an impressive .333 attack
percentage (30 total chances, two errors). Katie Molter (Oostburg,
Wis./Oostburg) and Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) added eight kills apiece as Molter finished the match
with a .500 attack percentage (14 attacks, one error).
Senior Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) kept the Warriors
hitters happy all day as she dished out a match-high 31 assists,
while also adding three kills and six digs in the win. Kayla
Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) led WLC with 16 digs
and also recorded five aces, while Mindy Schalinske (Burlington,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Erin Greenfield added 13 and 10 digs,
respectively.
Alverno (3-17, 0-8 NAC) was led by Emma Ortner as she finished
with team highs in both kills (eight) and digs (16). Chelsea
Gulbronson and Cali Trepp each tallied 10 digs, while Reagan Owen
recorded 19 assists for the Inferno.
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-11, 4-4 NAC) returns to the court
Wednesday when it hosts Rockford (4-17, 1-6 NAC) at the Recreation
Complex. Action between the Warriors and Regents gets underway at 7
p.m.
