RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College football team fell victim to a fourth-quarter comeback
against unbeaten Concordia Chicago and suffered a 21-9 loss
Saturday afternoon at Concordia Stadium.
WLC held a 9-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter before
Concordia Chicago used an eight play, 96-yard drive, capped off by
a 21-yard touchdown run from Andrew Maddox, to give the Cougars
their first lead with 10:17 remaining in the game.
The Warriors marched down the field to the CUC 20-yard line
before the host Cougars came away with the biggest play of the
afternoon, an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown by Matt
Rolf for a 21-9 Cougars advantage.
Defense was the story of the first quarter as the two teams
were scoreless after 15 minutes of play. Each team had a drive into
opponent's territory on their first possession of the game, but
both recorded key fourth-down stops.
A Concordia Chicago fumble early in the second quarter led to a
WLC 34-yard touchdown pass play from Zach Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren
Township) to Josh Stodola (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) for a 7-0
Wisconsin Lutheran advantage with 12 minutes left in the first
half. The touchdown pass from Shaw to Stodola was the eighth time
the duo has hooked up for a touchdown score this season. Jordan
Rabe (Oshkosh, Wis./West) had the fumble recovery that set up the
Warriors touchdown.
The 7-0 score held until just 24 seconds left in the first half
when Jamal Thomas hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass from Jake
Koehler to even the score at 7-7 heading into halftime.
The Warriors regained the lead with 7:13 remaining in the third
quarter as a botched punt snap was kicked out of the back of the
end zone by Concordia Chicago. The play, which resulted in a
safety, gave WLC a 9-7 advantage.
The Warriors' safety was the only scoring in the third quarter
as the 9-7 lead held until the Maddox 21-yard touchdown run in the
fourth quarter. The 80-yard interception return by Rolf then gave
CUC the 12-point advantage.
Wisconsin Lutheran out-gained Concordia Chicago 408-322 as the
Warriors rushed for 256 yards on the day. WLC had three rushers
gain at least 75 yards as Donavin Tucker (Brookfield, Wis./East)
led the squad with 97 yards on 20 carries. Michael Reeves (Hoffman
Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and Taylor Pelot (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Campbellsport) added 89 and 75 yards, respectively. Stodola

Lutheran defensively with 11 tackles, including one and a half for
a loss. Andrew Gleason had 15 tackles to pace the Cougars
defensively, while Sam Key and Marty Beckman added 11 tackles each
and Rolf adding the big interception.
