MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team stood toe-to-toe with the nation's fourth-ranked team for the majority of the Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament championship game Saturday. Unfortunately for the Warriors, visiting DePauw used a late run to pull away and take the title with a 61-39 victory.

The Warriors had DePauw's lead down to five points, 37-32, with 11:11 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get as the Tigers closed the game on 13-0 run over the final 4:47.

The opening 13-plus minutes of the game was a back-and-forth affair as neither team held a lead greater than two points with the lead changing eight times over that span. DePauw made the first run of the game, taking a 19-12 lead with 5:51 remaining in the first half. The Tigers kept that seven-point lead at 23-16 with 2:09 remaining, but Wisconsin Lutheran rattled off the final six points of the half to make the halftime score 23-22 in favor of the visiting Tigers.

The Tigers came out strong in the second half and quickly pushed their lead up to eight points with 17:12 remaining in the game. WLC was able to get its deficit down to just five points with 11:11 remaining.

Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) paced the Warriors as she finished with a team-high 12 points, while also pulling down a team-best eight rebounds. Christel Frey (South Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) chipped in with six points in a reserve role. WLC shot 29.1 percent (16-for-55) from the floor for the game and was outrebounded 44-34.

DePauw (2-0) was led by Alex Gasaway's game-high 19 points. Kate Walker added 10 points and eight assists, while Alison Stephens chipped in seven points a game-best 10 rebounds. The Tigers fired on 38.8 percent (19-for-49) of their shots for the game and were 20-for-32 from the charity stripe, opposed to just 5-for-9 for the Warriors.

Wisconsin Lutheran (1-1) will return to action Wednesday when it hosts Silver Lake (3-2) in a non-conference contest at the Recreation Complex. Tip-off against the Lakers is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can follow the action live via audio, stats, and video at www.wlcsports.com.
