Box Score Box score

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team dropped its Northern Athletics Conference opener Tuesday at the Recreation Complex to the Aurora Spartans, 80-54.

The opening half of the contest was played very evenly as the score was tied on six different occasions. The Warriors held the lead once in first half as they went up 20-18 on a Brett Lubbe (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) layup with 8:32 remaining. Aurora quickly erased its deficit, going on a 10-0 run to take a 28-20 lead with just under five minutes to play before halftime. Wisconsin Lutheran made the final surge of the half it scored the final six points to trim a 10-point deficit to just four, 32-28, at halftime.

WLC continued its run from the opening half as it scored the first four points after the break to tie the score at 32-32 just 33 seconds into the second half. Unfortunately it was all Spartans from that point on as visiting AU scored the next 13 points to take a 45-32 lead. WLC cut its deficit to six with 11:59 remaining in the game, but that would be as close as it got as the Spartans controlled the rest of the contest for the 80-54 victory.

Senior Julion Griffin (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) paced WLC with a team-high 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Randy Strutz (Sturtevant, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) added 10 points. Senior Nate Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) added nine points and a team-high five assists, while senior Tim Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) dished out four assists and recorded a game-best five steals.

For the game, the Warriors shot 34.4 percent (21-for-61) from the floor and committed 25 turnovers, opposed to 16 turnovers by the Spartans.

Aurora (2-3, 1-0 NAC) was led by Scott Laskowski's game-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Kalmon Stokes added 15 points for the Spartans, who shot 49.3 percent (33-for-67) from the floor for the game.

Wisconsin Lutheran (1-4, 0-1 NAC) returns to action Thursday when it travels across town to face Cardinal Stritch (8-0) in non-conference action. Tip-off from Panella Court is set for 7:30 p.m. Live audio, stats, and video will be available for the game at wlcsports.com.
