RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's basketball team received scoring contributions from
15 players on its way to defeating the Dominican Stars 77-42
Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics Conference game at the Igini
Sports Forum.
Despite trailing 4-0 early, the Warriors stormed back to an 18-8
lead at the 9:23 mark of the opening half. WLC was fueled by an
11-2 run which ended with 3:29 left and later led by a first-half
high 20 points (37-17) just before halftime. Junior Rachel Hoft
(Germantown, Wis./Germantown) led all scorers with 10 first-half
points as the Warriors led 37-19 at the break.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 50 percent (14-for-28) in the first half
and assisted on 10 of its 14 made baskets. Conversely, Dominican
was held to just 23 percent (7-for-31) shooting as Laura Kneips led
the Stars with five points.
The second half saw more of the same as the Warriors never let
their lead slip below 16 points. WLC used a 12-0 run to lead by 29
points (58-29) with 8:24 left in the game. The forest green and
white later increased its lead to a game-high 36 points with under
one minute remaining in regulation.
The Warriors continued their strong shooting in the second half
by shooting 47.1 percent (16-for-34) and committed just six
turnovers in the final 20 minutes. The Stars were limited to just
27.3 percent (6-for-22) in the second period.
Hoft led Wisconsin Lutheran with 10 points, while junior Melanie
Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) and sophomore Kristen
Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) added nine and eight
points, respectively. Laete also added a team-high five rebounds.
For the game, WLC fired on 48.4 percent (30-for-62) of its
shots.
Dominican (0-7, 0-3 NAC) was led by Stacy Reynolds'
double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Stars were held to
24.5 percent (13-for-53) shooting from the floor.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-1, 3-0 NAC) jumps out of league play this
weekend when it competes in the Crannell Holiday Classic at the
Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. The Warriors will play host
Millikin (1-2) Friday at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action via
