BELOIT, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's tennis team recorded its 14th win of the season on Saturday
as it defeated the Beloit Buccaneers 7-2 at the Strong Complex
Courts.
Wisconsin Lutheran edged out Beloit 2-1 in doubles play. The duo
of freshman Alyssa Stranstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove)
and sophomore Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) teamed up to win their matchup against Beloit's Alex
Hinck and Ashley Miglin, 9-8. Freshman Stephanie Gengler (Slinger,
Wis./Slinger) and sophomore Lindsay Gauger (Rockford,
Mich./Rockford) also came out victorious in their match against
Beloit's Lucia Peralta and Paola Schnabel, 8-1.
The Warriors also held the advantage over the Buccaneers 5-1 in
singles play. The Warriors #1 and #2 matches ended in two sets as
juniors Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
and Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) defeated their
opponents 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively. The Warriors #3
match also resulted in a win, but it extended into three sets as
Pearson defeated Ashley Miglin 3-6, 6-4, 12-10. The Warriors #5 and
#6 players also recorded wins on the day as sophomore Whitney Stibb
(Beaver Dam, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and senior Erin Mathiak
(Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) won 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2,
respectively.
With the non-conference win, the Warriors improve to 14-9
overall on the season. Wisconsin Lutheran is scheduled to compete
next in non-conference action against St. Norbert and Wis.-Stevens
Point on Saturday, April 28. Matches are set to take place at the
Western Racquet Club in Green Bay, Wis. at 1 and 4 p.m.,
respectively.
