GREEN BAY, Wis. - The
Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team split two
non-conference dual matches on Saturday in its final tune up before
the Northern Athletics Conference Team Tournament begins next week.
The Warriors defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point 7-2, but fell to St.
Norbert 8-1 in matches played at the Western Racquet Club.
In its win over the Pointers, WLC won five of six singles matches
and two of three doubles matches. Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the way in singles play as she won her
#1 match 6-3, 6-3 over UWSP's Rachel Brown. Kathryn Hendee
(Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) took care of business at #2 singles
winning 6-2, 6-1, and Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) won her #3 singles match, 7-6, 10-2.
Also picking up singles victories for Wisconsin Lutheran against
UWSP were Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove)
and Stephanie Kudek (Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran).
Strangstalien won at #4 singles 6-3, 6-2, while Kudek needed all
three sets to gain her win at #6 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
The #1 doubles team of Strehlow and Hendee were one of two Warriors
doubles teams to net a victory as the duo picked up an 8-2 win.
Also winning in doubles play was the #2 team of Pearson and
Strangstalien, 8-6.
In its second match of the day, Wisconsin Lutheran fell to St.
Norbert, 8-1. Strehlow was the only Warrior to net a win as she
rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 11-9 win at #1 singles.
Wisconsin Lutheran (15-10, 10-1 NAC) will return to action on
Friday when it competes in the NAC Team Tournament. The Warriors
are the #1 seed and will face the lowest remaining seed at 10 a.m.
at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wis. A semifinal win would put WLC in
the championship match at 3:30 p.m. for an automatic bid to the
2012 NCAA III Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.
