ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday night at
the ACR Homes Volleyball Season Opener. The Warriors fell to host
Northwestern in their opening match, 3-0, and then dropped a match
by the same score against Bethel (Minn.).
WLC fell to Northwestern in the opener in straight sets, 25-18,
25-20 and 25-17. The Warriors best set was the second where they
finished with a .167 attack percentage as they finished the opening
match with a .079 attack percentage.
Junior Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the
way for Wisconsin Lutheran in the opening match as she tallied 11
kills, while also leading the team with nine digs. Senior Steph Cox
(Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) recorded 22 assists for WLC and junior
Alayna Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added six
kills.
Kendra Korporal, Cari Miller and Lizzy Potratz led a balanced
attack for Northwestern (1-1) as each player finished with a
team-high seven kills. Krista Stoltz tallied 30 assists for
Northwestern in the win.
In the second match of the day, Wisconsin Lutheran again fell in
straight sets by margins of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-15.
Erin Greenfield again led the way for WLC as she recorded a
double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) led the team with 13 digs, while Cox dished
out 25 assists in the second match.
Bethel (2-0) was led by Amy Baumetz and Caitie Helle as each player
finished with seven kills. Cierra Nickel recorded 18 assists.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2) returns to the court tomorrow when it
plays a pair of matches to conclude season-opening play at the ACR
Homes Volleyball Season Opener. The Warriors will take on Buena
Vista (1-1) at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Grinnell (0-2)
at 12 p.m.
