AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's tennis team improved to 2-0 overall and won its first
Northern Athletics Conference match of the season Saturday,
defeating Benedictine 6-3 at the Vaughan Center. The Warriors'
second scheduled match of the day against Aurora was postponed due
to weather.
WLC opened the match by sweeping all three matches of doubles
competition. Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) and Stephanie Gengler (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) defeated
Vivianna Iway and Lina Savickas at #1 by a final of 8-3. At #2,
Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) and Kendall Bonnin
(Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph) were also victorious 8-3 over Bhavana
Movva and Antoinette Goyao. Terri Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) and Petra Krause (Oshkosh, Wis./West) completed the sweep
at #3 doubles with an 8-6 win over Kam Haifleigh and Anna
Savio.
In singles action, Strehlow, Hendee and Bonnin claimed wins for
the Warriors at #1, #2 and #3, respectively. Strehlow won 6-0, 6-0,
followed by Hendee at 6-2, 6-0 and Bonnin at 6-3, 7-6.
No make-up date for the rained-out match against Aurora has been
announced at this time.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-0, 1-0 NAC) returns to the courts Monday
for a 4 p.m. non-conference match at Beloit (2-1).
