The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team fell in its
Northern Athletics Conference opener 3-0 to Marian Tuesday night at
the Sadoff Gymnasium.
Despite the loss, the Warriors did come away with some positive
news as junior Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran)
reached 1,000 digs for her career. The junior libero came into the
match needing just nine digs and finished with 13 on the
evening.
Each set was incredibly close but it was Marian which came out on
top as it completed the sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22.
The Sabres closed out the third and final set very strong as they
rallied from a 22-19 deficit to score the final six points of the
set.
Junior Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
continued her strong play for Wisconsin Lutheran as she posted a
double-double by leading the teams with 14 kills and adding 12
digs. Her sister, Alayna Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran), also recorded a double-double tallying 12 kills and 10
digs. Ridgeman led the team with 13 digs, while Steph Cox
(Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) dished out a match-high 31 assists.
The host Sabres (6-5, 1-0 NAC) were led by Carlie Kinsey and Anna
Smit who recorded a team-best seven kills each. Ashley Zumbrock and
Katrina Jansen each tallied double-digit digs with 12 and 11,
respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-4, 0-1 NAC) will return to action Thursday
when it hosts reigning NAC regular season champions Dominican (7-2,
1-0 NAC). The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Recreation
Complex.
