The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team was defeated by
reigning Northern Athletics Conference champion Dominican Thursday
night at the Recreation Complex, 3-0. The Stars handed WLC its
first home loss of the 2012 season.
The first set of the match was back-and-forth as Dominican ended up
edging the Warriors, 30-28. The opening set seemed to build
momentum for the visiting Stars as they completed the sweep with
wins in the second and third sets by scores 25-21 and 25-22,
respectively.
Despite the loss, WLC junior Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) posted another double-double as she
tallied 14 kills and recorded a match-high 21 digs. Kayla Ridgeman
(Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) added 15 digs for Wisconsin
Lutheran, while Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) dished out a
match-high 34 assists and added nine digs. Alayna Greenfield
(Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also had a solid night
recording nine kills and eight digs.
Dominican (8-2, 2-0 NAC) was led by the duo of Claire Dezelski and
Jacy Lawrence as each player finished with double-digit kills.
Dezelski had 10, while Lawrence led the team with 11. The Stars
also received strong play from libero Liz Yayke who recorded a
team-best 19 digs. Christina Wilson and Jessica Guerrieri dished
out 19 and 14 assists, respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-5, 0-2 NAC) returns to action this weekend
when it competes in the Wis.-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic. The
Warriors will play two matches each tomorrow and Saturday beginning
with Lawrence (4-3) and Wis.-La Crosse (4-6) Friday. All matches
will take place at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh, Wis.
