OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team split its two matches at the Wis.-Oshkosh Pizza Hut
Classic Friday. The Warriors defeated Lawrence before falling to
Wis.-La Crosse. Both matches finished 3-1.
In its first match, WLC defeated Lawrence in four sets by scores
of 25-22, 26-24, 21-25 and 27-25. Wisconsin Lutheran was led by
junior outside hitter Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) as she recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 15 digs
for 24 total points. Juniors Alayna Greenfield (Wauwatosa,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each recorded 11 kills, and senior Steph
Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) had a team-high 36 assists.
Lawrence (4-4) was paced by the duo of Kayla Storm and Shannon
McLain as each tallied 14 kills and combined for nearly half of the
teams total 60 points. Diane McLeod held it down in the back for
Vikings as she chalked up a team-high 36 assists and 12 digs.
The Warriors second matchup of the day was against Wis.-La
Crosse. Again, the match went to four sets, but this time the
Warriors came up on the short end as they fell 25-19, 25-21, 23-25
and 26-24. Again, Erin Greenfield and Johnson led the Warriors in
their attack with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Cox contributed
another 30 assists, and Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) protected the back row with a total of 24 digs. Chantel
York tallied all 32 assists for La Crosse (6-6) in the match to
lead a balanced Eagles attack.
The Warriors (4-6) continue play at the Wis.-Oshkosh Pizza Hut
Classic Saturday against Carroll (3-5) at 10:30 am, and host
Wis.-Oshkosh (9-5) at 2 pm. Both matches will played at UWO's Kolf
Sports Center.
