MILWAUKEE -
The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team could not
overcome an early deficit as they fell to Edgewood 3-1 in a
Northern Athletics Conference game Tuesday night at Warrior
Field.
The visiting Eagles scored twice in the first 13:14 of action as
Andrew Aurit scored just 11:44 into play giving EC a 1-0 lead.
Edgewood jumped ahead 2-0 just 1:30 later when Paul Domann found
the back of the net putting WLC in an early deficit.
The 2-0 tally was what the scoreboard read heading into the locker
room as neither team scored the remainder of the first half.
Edgewood held a 6-3 shots advantage in the first 45 minutes as
Warriors keeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made three saves
in the first half.
Wisconsin Lutheran cut the Edgewood lead to one goal at the 69:12
mark when Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season making the score
2-1. Semmann took a cross from Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East
Troy) as he netted a goal for the third straight game.
The Eagles (3-3-1, 1-1-0 NAC) would add some insurance, however,
when Jacob Overman scored with just under six minutes left on the
clock for the 3-1 Edgewood advantage. Aurit was credited with an
assist on the final goal.
The game ended with each team firing nine shots as Stewart finished
with four saves, while Chad Stivers made two saves for EC. Semmann
and Kelmand Isaj each tallied a game-high three shots.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-3-0, 1-1-0 NAC) returns to Warrior
Field Saturday when it hosts MacMurray (3-3-0) in a non-conference
game. The contest between the Warriors and Highlanders is set for
3:30 p.m.
