NEW BERLIN, Wis. -
The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team rolled to an
8-1 Northern Athletics Conference win over Marian Wednesday night
at Moorland Park Tennis Center.
The Warriors swept all three doubles matches by identical 8-1
scores for an early 3-0 advantage. The three duos for WLC that
gained victories were Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Stephanie Gengler (Slinger,
Wis./Slinger) at #1, Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) and
Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph) at #2 and the #3 team of
Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Alyssa
Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove).
Wisconsin Lutheran continued its strong play in singles
competition, taking five of six matches en route to the 8-1
victory. Strehlow led the way from her #1 singles position as she
cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Warriors also picked up four other singles victories including
a #3 win by Pearson, 6-3, 6-2. Bonnin won her match at #4 singles,
6-2, 6-2, while Terri Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
gained a victory at #5 singles, 7-6, 6-4. Petra Krause (Oshkosh,
Wis./West) netted a win at the #6 singles spot as she rolled to a
6-1, 6-1 victory.
Marian (4-7, 4-4 NAC) needed a tiebreaker to win its lone match of
the evening as Reilly Connaher won the #2 singles match, 5-7, 7-5,
11-9.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-3, 7-1 NAC) will return to action this
weekend when it competes in the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional
Championships. The championships, which will be held at the Swanson
Indoor Tennis Center & Brown Outdoor Courts in St. Peter,
Minn., begin Friday and continue through Sunday.
