APPLETON, Wis. -
The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team fell 1-0 in
overtime against Lawrence in a non-conference game at Whiting Field
West Monday afternoon.
It was Oliver Newsom of the Vikings who netted the game-winner as
he scored 4:48 into overtime in a scrum in front of the net to give
Lawrence the 1-0 win. Dan O'Mahoney and David Caprile were credited
with assists on the Newsom goal.
The opening half saw the host Vikings out-shoot WLC 5-0 as Warriors
goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made four saves in
the first 45 minutes to preserve the scoreless half.
Wisconsin Lutheran applied the majority of its offensive attack in
the second half as it held a 9-5 shots advantage over the next 45
minutes of play. Five of the Warriors' nine shots in the second
half were on goal as Kevin Aslett made five saves for LU. Stewart
recorded two second-half saves for WLC and finished with six for
the game. The Newsom goal was the only shot of overtime for either
team.
Lawrence (4-4-1) held a slight 11-9 edge in shots for the game as
the Warriors' Nate Wasser (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran)
and the Vikings' Cameron Pieper led all players with three shots
apiece.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-4-0, 1-1-0 NAC) returns to the pitch
Wednesday when it hosts six-time defending Northern Athletics
Conference champion Dominican (5-1-1, 2-0-0 NAC). DU is receiving
votes in the latest NSCAA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Game time between
the Warriors and Stars is set for 7 p.m. at Warrior Field.
