WAUWATOSA, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's tennis team will be returning to the NAC Team
Tournament after they punched their ticket with a 5-4 win over
Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday night at Hart Park.
If WLC wins one of its two remaining conference matches, it will
receive a bye and the #2 seed in the 2013 NAC Team Tournament,
which will be contested in the spring.
On Tuesday night against the Falcons (9-2, 9-2 NAC), it was singles
play that led Wisconsin Lutheran to victory as it took four of six
singles matches. Leading the way in singles play was Kaitlyn
Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) who defeated
CUW's Julie Spransy, 6-1, 6-2. Kathryn Hendee (Rockton,
Ill./Hononegah) followed suit at #2 singles as she gained a 6-2,
4-6, 6-2 three-set win.
Also picking up wins for the Warriors in singles competition were
Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Josephs) and Alyssa Strangstalien
(Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) at #4 and #5 singles,
respectively. Bonnin took her match 6-3, 7-5, while Strangstalien
rallied for the decisive 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
The four singles wins were all needed as the Warriors had to rally
back after dropping two of three doubles matches to open the
evening. Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory)
and Strangstalien were the lone doubles winners for WLC as they won
at #3, 8-2.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-3, 8-1 NAC) returns to action Thursday when
it plays Aurora (7-4, 6-3 NAC) in a match that was postponed from
September 1. Play gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at Washington Middle
School in Aurora, Ill.
