SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -
The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team picked up its
first conference win of the season Tuesday, defeating Lakeland 3-0
at the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Warriors cruised in the opening set defeating Lakeland 25-16 as
they finished with an impressive .400 attack percentage. In the
second set, WLC found itself trailing 22-20 but settled in after a
timeout and scored five of the final six points to win the set
25-23. The Warriors then completed the sweep with a 25-20 set three
victory.
Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Kelli
Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the way
offensively for WLC as the duo finished with 14 and 11 kills,
respectively. Greenfield led all players with 14 kills and also
posted a match-best .353 attack percentage, while Johnson had a
.250 attack percentage. Senior Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran)
dished out a match-high 30 assists.
Defensively, Wisconsin Lutheran was led by Alayna Greenfield
(Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Heather Tompkins
(Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) as each
player posted a match-high 12 digs.
Lakeland (12-5, 2-1 NAC) had three players finish with double-digit
dig totals for the evening led by Brittany Reindl and Anna Faust,
who had 11 digs each. Caleigh Galvan recorded a team-best seven
kills with Reindl adding 25 assists.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-10, 1-3 NAC) returns to action Saturday when
it travels to Concordia Wisconsin (3-16, 0-4 NAC). The Warriors and
Falcons, who will be playing for the second time in eight days,
will get underway at 2 p.m. at the R. John Buuck Field House in
Mequon, Wis.
