The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team defeated
Concordia Wisconsin 3-1 Saturday afternoon at R. John Buuck Field
House for its second straight Northern Athletics Conference
win.
The Warriors dominated the opening set, winning 25-16 before
falling in a closely-contested second set, 28-30. Wisconsin
Lutheran then won the third set 25-21 before rolling to a 25-14
set-three win.
Wisconsin Lutheran had three players finish with double-digit kills
on the afternoon led by Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) who posted a match-best 16 kills. Kelli Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 12 kills, while Alayna
Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) tallied 10 kills
despite being forced to leave the match in the second set due to
injury.
A big reason for the large amount of kills by the Warriors was the
play of senior setter Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran), who
dished out a match-high 42 assists in the victory. Cox and
Greenfield each finished with a double-double recording 12 and 11
digs, respectively. Also adding double-digit digs for WLC was Kayla
Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) who had a game-high 24
digs, while Heather Tompkins (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) tallied 14.
Concordia Wisconsin (4-17, 1-5 NAC) was led by Hannah Griffiths and
Kelsey Paramore as they tallied 18 and 17 digs, respectively.
Carley Valentine added a team-best 25 assists, while Britta Duchow
and Amanda Stahmann each finished with a team-best eight kills.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-10, 2-3 NAC) returns to action Tuesday when
it hosts Aurora (7-9, 3-2 NAC) in a conference match. Action
between the Warriors and Spartans is set for 7 p.m. at the
Recreation Complex.
